In today’s world women are forced to be insecure due to all the women they see in magazines looking so perfect. When girls look at magazines they think that is what those women really look like and that is what they are supposed to look like. They then are left feeling insecure because maybe they are not as skinny as the girls in magazines or their skin is not as flawless or their clothes don’t fit the way the other girls do. This is such a sickening thing that America has made girls feel so insecure by showing unreal images in magazines.
Girls who are left feeling insecure think they have to change the way they look so that they can look like the girls they see in magazines. Goodman states in his article that “ Today, cosmetic surgery is marketed and bought as casually as lipstick”(222). This is embarrassing to me that America gets as much plastic surgery as they do something simple like lipstick. Girls think they are not pretty enough the way they are that they have surgery to make them feel pretty. What girls do not understand is that the girls they see in magazines don’t even look like they appear to in the magazines. A lot of what you see in magazines has been airbrushed. They can take inches off girls waist, and even make their skin look flawless. On a more serious note, a lot of girls have gotten surgery to look the way they do in the magazines, so girls are forced to think that plastic surgery is the only way to be beautiful.
